Here is a picture from the Unadilla Victory parking lot. A quick history. When Victory Markets moved from the corner of Main and Mill somewhere around 1960 to lower Main there was a constant problem with the parking lot flooding from day one with this newly constructed store site. Nothing was done to fix the problem. I went into the service in October 1963. I was discharged in October 1967. I began college in Jan. 1968. In the meantime beginning in 1968 I periodically managed the Unadilla Victory during the absence of Stan White, the regular manager and the flooding problem had not been fixed. One Saturday afternoon after some kind of extra heavy cloudburst which obviously flooded the Unadilla Victory parking lot I put Joe Schaefler (spelling my own) up to bringing his canoe down and we floated it in the parking lot. I think there were rubber duckies floating around while the picture taking was going on. I took the pictures and mailed them into Victory Markets Headquarters in Norwich with the weekly closing bookwork pointing out that there was a problem, a problem that had been going on since approximately 1960. Ohwas the reaction, and the problem was fixed very soon because I had mailed the pictures to either Charles Smith Jr. or Hamilton Smith who were heads of the company at that time.. Joe Schaefler is in the canoe and I cannot remember who is the other person in the canoe. Maybe a guy with the last name of Zorda? Enjoy, remember this is 1969 or so and the picture is tattered.
