Here is a quote from the latest lock out letter presented to the BCTF In light of the continued bargaining between the parties, I am writing to formally advise you that BCPSEA will not engage in any lockout activity in relation to teacher attendance at professional days or any other planning work prior to the commencement of the coming school year. Our position is based on our hope that we will reach a collective agreement before the start of the school year and our desire that the necessary preparations be made in order to allow the school year to commence on time if this occurs. Our commitment is also based on an assumption that if teachers are attending work prior to the school year, they will perform all of their regular duties in this regard. Other than as specifically committed above, BCPSEA continues to reserve the right to continue or impose a full or partial lockout at its discretion, in accordance with the BC Labour Relations Code. So what they are saying is they are okay with us working for free to get things ready BEFORE school starts but once school starts they will cut our wage again and not allow us to work/help students on our own time. Hmmm interesting. It blows my mind that the government thinks teachers would be okay with this. Why, thank you for allowing me to work on my own time. I do have to say I did enjoy having a full hour for lunch. It was great to connect with my coworkers and not worry about prepping for the afternoon.
