Here is a recent exchange I had with someone who thought breaking a window to save a dogs life was wholly unreasonable. I will be asking him the follow up question about his religion. The link to the source article is below and here are the comments on that article: Harleen Sethi Wait?what? why? He saved this dogs life. Ugh people 2 hrs · Like Kyle Ehrenzeller Id charge him. Seriously too. No joke. If that guy broke my window Id make sure he felt everything but a hero when I got a hold of him 1 hr · Like Harleen Sethi Even if the dog was in there? Its like People leaving their child in the hot car 1 hr · Like Julia McElhaney Good for him. Let the other guy have fun explaining that in court. Animal cruelty? 1 hr · Unlike · 1 Kyle Ehrenzeller You cant just go around breaking windows 43 mins · Like Harleen Sethi I dont know I would cause if it is 104 degrees in the car the organs will shut down and if it is 107 degrees the body dies. So yes I would save a life. A window can be replace. I pet or even a child hard to 40 mins · Unlike · 1 James Glass Actually, you can go around breaking windows in cases like these, and this article is a bit disingenuous in that it plays up the he could be charged. The likelihood of him being charged is extremely low since most municipalities have clauses to vandalism and property damage for saving life (yes, that includes dogs). If there werent then volunteer fire departments couldnt break down doors to rescue dogs and children and turtles from burning homes. He can also demonstrate that he made more than a reasonable effort to locate the owner, so the only charges here will be for the asshole that left his or her dog in a death trap. Kyle, I think youre arguing an indefensible position, unless of course you like to watch defenseless sentient creatures literally be baked to death. It might be time to reassess your value system when property becomes more important than life. 20 mins · Edited · Like Kyle Ehrenzeller Well James Im not for animal abuse but I can assure you you wouldnt want to be the one breaking my window 16 mins · Like James Glass Oh, veiled threats, what an improvement over a complete lack of empathy and failure to understand property law. Its like the trifecta of inhumanity, violence, and ignorance all in one Facebook thread. Good luck, man. Ill carry on in this thread with reasonable people, but Im done with you because you devalue life and value violence.
