MSS 2015 - COURSE DESCRIPTIONS (14 hours CME) Thursday, June 18 Billing and Collection (6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.) Carl Brakensiek and Steve Cattolica are joined by Sue Honor-Vangerov, Esq., Sarah Moray as well as Collection Expert, Jon Brissman, Esq., to discuss not only current changes to the OMFS, but how to handle the pressing collection problems brought about by the seemingly constant fee schedule changes taking place. An update of the RAND Institutes ongoing study of the reimbursement and structure of reporting by treating physicians and medical-legal evaluators will also be presented. Friday, June 19 - Program starts at 8:30 a.m. (7.5 hours) Introduction and Keynote (8:30 a.m. - 9 a.m.) Carl Brakensiek provides the 30th Annual Mid-Summer Seminar audience with his unique perspective on the state of the Society and the future of occupational medicine in California. The Challenging Patient (9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.) CSIMS President, Maureen Miner, M.D. moderates a panel of physicians who routinely treat the most complicated cases. In order to successfully address long-running workers compensation claims involving fundamentally complex injuries and/or co-morbidities it takes organizational skills not taught in med school. Lunch n Learn (12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.) Steve Cattolica and Carl Brakensiek present a vital update regarding legislation and regulations that directly affect your daily practice of occupational medicine in California. Specialty Breakouts (1:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.; Break in Exhibit Hall 3 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.) Internal Medicine - In small groups, the audience analyzes case studies discussing the intricacies and pitfalls of each from both a treating and forensic perspective. Each group will then bring back the results of their analysis to the entire group. Mental Health - In small groups, the audience analyzes case studies, discussing the intricacies and pitfalls of each in light of not just the restrictions on the effect of non-catastrophic sequellea injuries, but the anticipated treatment guidelines. Neuromusculoskeletal - In addition to analyzing case studies that present unique problems, the panel and audience will build on the mornings case management theme by discussing how to successfully obtain medically appropriate and accurate diagnostic tests in order to successfully treat and evaluate these most commonly occurring injuries. Pamela Foust, Esq., is joined by David Leonard, Esq., in presenting an update of the case law that affects the success of your practice, whether treatment or medical-legal.
