Here is a taste of Chapter one. The smell of burnt earth and seared flesh filled his nostrils. His body was numb from the pain. The crackling noise from the fires was the only sound he could hear. His mind was reeling from the shock and the pain from what just happened. What did just happen? One moment he was driving the next, what happen? There was a… flash, yeah a flash, and heat. My God, the heat was intense. Wait a minute, that smell, where is it coming from. Robert Spear slowly tried to open his eyes. Pain shot through his skull, it felt if his head was going to explode. The sound of burnt skin cracking as if someone was crumbling a chip in his or her hands, echoed inside his skull. He tried to scream in pain but no sound came out. Oh my God, it’s my skin that I smell! What happen? His eyes slowly focused and realized he was lying on the ground, in a deep chasm looking up at the thick swirling clouds of dust and smoke in the night sky. How did I get here? He forced himself to painfully lift his head to look at his body. Trying to clear his head so that he might be able to recall what happen. I was on my way to Atlanta from Birmingham for a sales meeting. I remember driving down I-20 then that flash. Where did that come from? Could it have been a nuke? That would explain both the flash and the heat. Did anybody else survive? I wonder how long till help arrives? Would there be any help?
