Here is an interesting case published in BMJ case reports. It involves a case that required hospitalization and surgery for a non-verbal autistic young man. It really makes it clear how important it can be for hospital personnel to consult closely with those that care for people on the autism spectrum. Hospitals can be very challenging for those of us with autism (and other developmental disabilities). Standard procedures and hospital routines often need to be altered in order to be effective for us.
