Here is an update on sweet Collin from his grandma. Thank you friends, our prayers are surrounding him and the Childrens staff! God is really moving in that place! Thank you to all who have been offering prayers and well wishes! The night before we started chemo, the site around Collins feeding tube became inflamed and very sensitive. By Wednesday morning it was all out infected and the balloon that holds it in was bulging out of him. Here we are, 10 min before his first chemo treatment and three teams of Drs are conferring as to what is the best course of action. Which is the least invasive route that is safe for Collin without interfering with the transplant? It was decided to just remove the tube for now and allow the tissue time to heal without surgical intervention, using only antibiotics. They would watch it for a week or so, then decide if they could use the same site again or have to open a new one. So they removed the tube at bedside and proceeded with his first chemo treatment. Collin tolerated the chemo really well the first day with no ill effects, just very tired. He took about a three hour nap. On the second day it was the same. But when the Drs. examined his infected incision they were blown away at how much better it looked! Thank you for your continued healing prayers! When I got to the hospital Fri morning he was just coming out of surgery. They were able to put the tube back in the same site after only two days! Praise You God! The chemo did start to catch up with him that day tho cuz he was cranky and crabby and generally miserable most of the day. He only had one episode when he expelled, but there was so much of it that they just stripped the bed and threw it all away, sheets and all! He took better than a 4 hour nap that day. On a brighter note, two days ago the Dr asked us if we have noticed any movement in his right arm yet. We told him no more than the occasional involuntary movement or slight squeeze of the hand. Then yesterday, the OT came in to work with him and after some arm stretches she asked him to squeeze her hand with his good left one as hard as he could. He sqeezed her tight, and with the effort of it, the right one came up off of the bed to almost a 45* angle! She was ecstatic! He did it twice. Of course by the time the Dr came in he couldnt do it any more but thats ok. We saw it! Twice! Then, later on we were playing Candyland with the therapist and every time it was Collins turn she asked him to pick up Mr Righty (his right arm) so he could move his piece and he did! Every time! He would raise his arm a few inches up from the bed and she would extend it out for him to take his turn. Amazing! See, we must never put limits on what God can do! Anyway, Im off to the hospital now. Theyre coming out with the big guns today and things are going to get bad for him. Lacey is going to try to cut his hair this morning while hes still feeling good so that its not so scary for him when it all starts to fall out. Raechel is coping well. My mom has been keeping her company and weve all been trying to keep her busy so that she doesnt dwell too much on things. It helps her knowing that hes not been feeling too many ill effects as of yet. Keep the prayers coming. Every single one of them helps! Love to you all!!!
