Here is another small snippet from my upcoming book. If youve already pre-ordered then you have probably read it. Cheers Pete Hammond Cheif mix engineer at The PWL Hit Factory 1986 to 1991 Mike Stock and Matt Aitken were always dreaming up silly names for synthesizer parts on the records. On ‘I should be so lucky’ there is one such sound that features predominantly. It was christened, ‘Funky Joe,” and it’s prominent throughout the record - it’s the ‘dugadugdugaduga’ sound - it’s especially noticeable in the verses. The ‘Funky Joe’ was used in various forms on almost all of the Hi-Energy records that PWL released. There were also several other sounds that made a regular appearance on the track listing; including, ‘Chivvy,’ a rhythmic synth part that, ‘Chivvied,’ the song along, and, ‘One Note Theo,’ which was a moving string synth line, usually played with one finger. Then there was the most famous of all…‘Riki Tikki,’ this was the name given to the very busy percussion parts that included, congas, bongos, cowbells, claps etc. The cowbells and claps usually came from the Linn 9000; the rest were from a Roland TR727 percussion sequencer. You often heard the cry, “More Riki Tikky needed,” on the recording sessions. :-)
