Here is just one more reason to avoid soda… the caramel color used to make some sodas brown, 4-MEI, was deemed a possible carcinogen (i.e. something that causes cancer) by the state of California. As a result, some soda companies started reducing this chemical in order to avoid cancer warning labels on their products sold in CA. But based on the tests mentioned in this January article, it sounds like one soda co. in particular was still exceeding the recommended threshold anyway (should we be surprised?).
