Here is my take on the budget amendment hearing by the City Council last night. There simply was no hearing. From my viewpoint there was simply an exercise to consumate what had already been determined to act upon by possibly a select few. Yes there was a specific agenda but again no hearing on the subject matter. There were no exchanges of dialogue regarding necessity, short and are long term impacts to the city, alternative nor any other seemingly would be pertinent discussions between the voting members of the council. Because of that, the performance put on gave me the impression that our council members simply came in and validated what the mayor told them was going to happen. Maybe Im wrong and I hope I am but I do not believe I am long at all. While the objectives of last nights meeting may be minor in nature as far as impact. In my view the display only further convinced me that we are not receiving a responsible governmental representation. From what I observed, it appeared that more than one council member was simply there to vote YES and to sign on whatever dotted line existed to whatever was to be brought before them.
