Here is one more for you. While stationed aboard the USS EDENTON (ATS1) during a med deployment we were tasked as the U.S. Navy representative at the Spanish Sea Film Festival (similar to the Canes festival but only for films to do with the sea). Each NATO nation had a warship their representing their Navy and each ship sponsored a reception. Ours was to be held ashore, all the other ships were having theirs in their wardrooms (no drinking on a U.S. ship). As the ships port liaison officer it was my duty to deliver formal invitations to the COs of all the other ships to our reception. I was provided with a Spanish Naval officer to escort me. Well, as we visited each ship we were brought to their wardroom where we shared in a little libation. As the day progressed and as the complimentary drinks flowed things got a little foggy...to the point that I dont really remember the last few ships that we visited. My escort and I then had to attend one of the film showings...Grey Lady Down (in Spanish). Well, 10-15 minutes into the film the two of us sneaked out of the theater literally on our hands and knees so that we wouldnt be seen. Now we were dressed in our Service Dress Whites so you can imagine the picture. We hooked up with our Chief Engineer and ended up back on the Dutch ship. Well, by the time we got back to our ship the Chief Engineer and I were quite looped. We had delivered to our ship a very large flower arrangement that was to be used the next day at our reception. It was sitting on one of the wardroom tables Apparently we got home sick and decided to used the arrangement to do the she loves me...she loves me not thing and pulled the pedals off the flower arrangement. We were found passed out in the wardroom and our friends took photos of the scene with all the flowers scattered around us. Needless to say I had much to answer to to the CO the next day (besides scrambling for a new flower arrangement)...with a horrible hangover to boot!
