New Training Regulations for the Private Security Personnel & Private Investigators As at 1 October 2013 the new training regulations for Private Security Personnel come into force. ACTION 1: This means that you may need to undertake specific training to retain your certificate of approval or individual licence. Training will help to ensure that security personnel have the skills to protect both the public and themselves. By making the training compulsory we can ensure the standards are consistent across the industry. Who has to do the training? The following people will have to do the training: · Crowd controllers · Crowd controller employees · Property guards · Property guard employees · Personal guards · Personal guard employees The training applies to both licence and certificate of approval holders. What is involved? The training is made up of three NZQA unit standards (12 credits total): · NZQA unit standard 27364 (demonstrate knowledge of the security industry in the pre-employment context) · NZQA unit standard 27360 (demonstrate knowledge of managing conflict situations in a security context) · NZQA unit standard 27361 (manage conflict situations in a security context) The training can be provided by accredited trainers. This will depend on several factors, including any arrangements between employers and their employees. When does the training have to be completed? ACTION 2: Anyone who holds, or has applied for, a licence or certificate of approval for permit classes Crowd Controller, Personal Guard and/or Property Guard as at 30 September 2013 is required to complete the training and must do so before 1 October 2014. You only have to do the training once. How do I let the Licensing Authority know that I have completed the training? ACTION 3: It is important that you let the Licensing Authority know when you have completed the training. You need to provide the Licensing Authority with: · A copy of your passing certificate · Your current residential address · Nominated a NZ Postshop to collect your new permanent licence/certificate of approval You can forward the documents via email or post to: · Email: [email protected] · Post: Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority, DX Box SX10042, Wellington Do not destroy your current security identification badge as you will need to exchange it for your new permanent licence/certificate of approval.
