Here is some information Id like to share with my fellow academics looking to hire folks. What are you looking for in a junior hire? Productive researcher (check); quality teacher (check); good colleague (check). Right?! OK, so now I want you to look at one of our GMU students on the market this year ... Ms. Abby Hall. She has I believe 12 refereed publications to date, including in Public Choice and Defense & Peace Economics, and her topic is exceedingly relevant. She is an experienced and accomplished teacher with very high student evaluations, but more importantly she is an economics major generating machine. Need to increase your FTE #s, put her to work. And she is an absolutely wonderful person. Let me repeat TWELVE referred publications before she is out of school, and she has an ongoing research program in the field of defense economics. She is a measured analyst, writes clearly, yet persuasively, and is a serious student of society who never stops trying to dig deeper and learn more. She is a hard working and dedicated teacher. And you will enjoy her company in seminars, in the hallways, and at lunch. BTW, I am NOT her dissertation chair.
