Here is something for Garinagu to consider written by Hubert Bailey! IT’S TIME THAT WE LOOK AT OURSELVES IN THE MIRROR I believe that somewhere along the road that our Garifuna family got lost. So in wake of that there’s a historical gap of delusion and confusion, which has our people in a dire state of neglect and disunity. Within this issue of understanding the real issue and legality of their citizenship and their lands that were legally granted to them for their outstanding support and shedding of blood for the independence of Honduras. The lands granted under a legal constitution and government. I believe that one of the first thing that our ancestors would have done, was to send out a call by Bull horn, Goat horn, Sheep horn, Conch shell horn and by the fearless beat of their battle sound echoing from their majestic drums. A drum beat which once ruled the region with a complete defiance of enslavement, so that all will hear, and make it their duty to find the source of those sounds. Those sounds are the sounds of freedom, and are what kept them united and free, in a world of confusion destruction and greed that once undertook that brutal forced enslavement of Regional Natives and African people. The evidence of what took place then is revealing itself to what continues to take place against the Garifuna people throughout Central America. The fact remains that their blood was shed in those lands decades before those that are in power came. Citizenship clearly is not in question here. What is in question appears to be the rightful ownership of large sections of lands, once given to the Garifuna people of Honduras. By sending a call out for a general meeting of all Garifuna organizations and individuals, so that we can sit and investigate all that took place, and come to a decision on how we are going to settle this very serious situation presently taking place against our people in Honduras. I believe if this meeting is not called, and end with a declaration of intent, the international community will not come to the defense of our people in Honduras. If the International community do not see those exploited and murdered uniting and speaking out in defiance of injustice against them. They will remain silent, and all will be lost. When a meeting is called, and we show the world who and what we are. The world will notice, it will stand where justice stands and it will demand of those that carried out those injustices stop and pay for the damages caused from and by their actions. It will also show that as a people, that we have a clear understanding of what has taken place against our people in their country. Most of us don’t know just how the laws of the United Nations works, but it is very clear that there are laws, and when proof is made those laws are used and used very effectively. It is clear that the rights of the Garifuna citizens of Honduras are being trampled upon, with racist, prejudicial confrontation which sounds and acts as scenes of apartheid like behavior. We as a people, must never forget, that none did it better than our ancestors. None fought as they did. None lived as they once lived and they did so from the very beginning of time as the European race unleashed its savagery on Western humanity. Not even the love of God stood in their assault on the people of the West. The only brick wall they encountered, stood at the feet of the unity of our Garifuna nation of Yurumein, and stood at their feet for over two hundred years. Never given an inch of freedom and never once backed down to the powers of Europe. Not one but all European, that sailed by did so with the greatest of fear. Most sailed far and wide from the waters of our ancestors. Yes we were once Kings, Queens, Prince and Princesses. In time, our end came, and it came with great pride because those that brought our freedom to its end were those of the same ancestral bloodline that we share. Our freedom was not brought down by European men doing battle against our ancestors. It was the strong, vicious and powerful blood of African warriors that were sent to attack and murder our people, so that European men could bring enslaved Africans to our nation and enrich themselves with great wealth. The facts as to why what and where it went wrong are there to be investigated. But only when we bring our forces together, will we be able to investigate properly and end successfully with the matter. And from that we will understand where it went wrong, and put our people in a good position to correct and protect what are rightfully theirs. Whatever alleged fraud was committed we will correct. Whatever injustice took place we will correct and whatever illegal transaction took place we will correct and do so within the laws of the Honduran legal system as it is their right as citizens of their country, and their justice will be done. Those found guilty will be brought to justice. The hour is come for us to stop talking, and come together at the table. And partake as our ancestors taught us how to, when faced with what we are faced with at this moment. This battle before our people is a battle of legality and ownership. We as a people must unite no matter where we are, connection is never an issue. This battle for justice and equality which are the foundations of peace for any nation to develop must be led by our people in Honduras. The world is silently watching to see if what they were told that we were made of stands as fact, about whom and what we are. Let us not disappoint them. We are not African American, nor Caribbean Americans. We are the Garifuna Nation living in exile throughout Central American as a free and peaceful people. If we do not work as one under the banner as a Garifuna Nation, we will not succeed in our fight against this grave apartheid actions, carried out against Honduran citizens of Garifuna descent. Please there is still time, look at yourself in the mirror and you will know that it is still time because, it is you alive and well looking at you. It’s about time that we put our people first and our desires for comforts behind us. What is being fought for now is land, billions of dollars, big business economic and financial development which will one day bring great wealth to the nation of Honduras which is your nation by birth right. The end is clear in their mind, but in the minds of our people it is not. Let those of us that understand what is taking place come together and bring a stop to it. There are a series of letters that must be written, and these letters must be written as a Nation living in exile. These letters must be sent to the governments of, the British, French, Dutch, Spanish, Belgium, Danish, German and the United States of America, because it is from their actions of forced enslavement why our people are being faced with the horrors of this new form of apartheid injustice carried out by those they left behind. The actions of the Republic of Dominica must never be allowed to happen again!
