Here is the awesome rainbow that greeted us on our first steps onto a trail in Chautauqua Park. The thing about Boulder is that you always seem to get more than you expect , it is just an amazing place. The next morning we set out after provisions and end up having our first Whole Foods experience, wow! Then on the way out met the driver of this classic old Land Cruiser. His owner was likely in picking up some fresh chia dog biscuits with a mango chutney glaze. Then we picked up a couple of hard tail mountain bikes at University Bicycle and headed south. Boulder has this amazing multi use trail system for bikes and pedestrians, and it seems like half of the population uses it. We must have seen 1,000 people either walking or riding in the 5 miles that we rode to get to the off-rode trails at Marshall Mesa. Our first real single track ride was just right, a little up a little down some rocks some mud, and no bruises or broken collar bones. The ride back through town however was a wee bit uncomfortable. The first 3 miles back it rain heavily and the temp. was around 65 degrees. After returning the bikes we treated ourselves to hotdogs and fries at Mustards Last Stand. Just before dark we drove up to the NCAR building (National Center For Atmospheric Research) while we new there were plenty of smart people doing incredible things inside the building...we just drove up to see the deer come out to feed at dusk. From high on the hill we spotted 8 or 10 in the fields and 1 in the parking lot. Tomorrow its up Boulder Canyon to Nederland and beyond. Where few people reside but many go to live.
