Here is the last blog from your amazing adventure to Heartbeat2013 the Active summer camp for this year! Sunday, the day everyone has been dreading was now upon us. After spending the whole night awake so that I could spend the most time I could with the people I had gotten to know. Still the time wasn’t on our side and not before long the sun was shining. First we waited until those who would not be going on our bus left and after that the all’nighters group split up and we went our separate ways. I went down to my room to rouse those who fell asleep during the night. It took a little time with some of them but we got everything ready, went to eat breakfast and relaxed a little. My stomach didn’t allow me the honours of eating, for the displeasure of going on that bus was too great. Everywhere I looked people were almost in tears when everyone was leaving. Hugs and kisses went around but then we were off on a moving steam machine, pretending to be a bus. We drove for some time and then stopped at a grocery store where we were supposed to buy dinner. What could we buy? Not much actually as it was three in the afternoon and dinner would be served in a couple of hours, so snacks and cookies were the preferred choice. Inside the bus it was like being in a sauna and in Bosnia and Herzegovina we had to stop a lot, and by the time a man came inside to check the passports, everyone was almost naked. The look on his face was hysterical, he walked through the bus so fast that he didn’t even look at all the passports, he was out of there faster than a speeding bullet. The night came around and it finally got cold, I fell asleep and my brother gave me a blanket. I was all cosy (as cosy as you could get in a bus) and then we stopped. I had no idea what was happening but then I found out. People were leaving and everything seemed sad, everyone bid their goodbyes and a few of us went outside to hug them there. Shortly thereafter, after most of the group had used the toilets at the bus stop, we were off again and we didn’t stop the rest of the night. Everything was real quiet for everyone was asleep. I woke up a couple of times, but was always able to fall asleep again. I slept for many hours until we were roused since the bus had stopped by a McDonald’s and everyone got off, some to eat breakfast, others just to stretch their legs or go to the toilets. The rest of the way was cold and great. Everyone was happy that the sweltering heat was less outside the bus but now it was stuck inside the bus, everyone was still sweating, at least just a little. After we had stopped at McDonald’s the girl that sat next to me decided that she wanted to be with the people from her country, just for a while. I wasn’t going to complain since now I had two seats instead of one and it felt great. We watched Harry Potter and this was the first time I was so tired that I fell asleep during every single movie. The girl came back by the time we got on the ferry, there we ate and did what we had to do. They asked us to take all our stuff off the bus, everything we had with us at our seats and the reason for this was so we could change seats afterwards when we got back on. At this point of the trip so many people had left the bus that everyone was fighting for a seat at the front and there was no one in the back. I got my two seats by trading with my brother, but I didn’t sleep the rest of the way. Those last couple of hours went by like seconds, and our time there was coming to an end. The Icelanders weren’t the only ones getting off at the airport it was also a few others. Saying goodbye is the worst part, you have spent a great deal of time with these people and it doesn’t seem enough. Every moment was worth it, every person I met was exquisite in their own amazing way. Now that I’m home in the cold and comfort of my own home I feel lonely. I miss the people, the tiredness and even the sun. Icebreaker might have been spectacular but it feels like nothing compared to Heartbeat. Almost 60 hours in a small, smelling, hot, uncomfortable bus and still this was the greatest adventure I have ever experienced, what’s next? Guðrún Saga Member of 0% Reykjanes Keep watching us !
