Here is the latest update on Jackie (Burke) Tyner. Thanks for all your care and support for Jackie!---it has meant so much to her & Randy---and keep the prayers coming as she continues to heal and regain herself. (read below) All thanks to God for her continued healing, and for giving us a great friend and classmate! Message Jackie to let her know youre thinking about her. We are blessed that Jacqueline is alive. Lets continue to make differences in peoples lives and care for those that God puts in our path. _____________________ FINAL UPDATE - MARCH 12 JACQUELINE’S PROGRESS From Randy’s March 5th update on Caringbridge, where you can continue to follow their story. (Search “Caringbridge,”, type in Jackie Tyner and go to her Journal page, for future updates.) “We went to Boston on Monday (March 3rd), and Jacquelines oncologist told her (among other things), You are in complete molecular remission. He also said, Im scared for you. His words reflect three things: 1. Jacqueline has responded fabulously to treatment, and she is in remission! 2. Because she degraded to the blast crisis phase of CML prior to transplant, the likelihood of relapse is higher than it otherwise would be for Jacqueline. 3. The only drug that would improve her chances of relapse-free years has a high incidence of life threatening side effects With the doctors guidance, we will have to decide in the coming weeks whether Jacqueline will go without the risky-but-effective drug and hope for no relapse; or if she will take the drug and hope it protects her from relapse, without serious harm. It will be a tough decision, but we remind ourselves that we are blessed to have any options at all. We are blessed that Jacqueline is alive; Im blessed that she has just fallen into a peaceful sleep beside me, in our own home; and we are both blessed by the kindness and friendship of so many. Thank you.” SUPPORT FUND PROGRESS We launched the R&J SUPPORT FUND seven weeks ago, today. Since then, nearly 400 gifts have poured in, totaling more than $87,000! Randy and Jacqueline are completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity, compassion, love and support you have shown. Thank you for helping to exceed our highest hopes! We know each gift came from the heart (and more than a few came from compassionate folks who don’t even know Randy and Jackie). These funds will greatly ease the financial strain that Randy and Jacqueline’s illnesses continue to press upon them. What a relief … for now, Jacqueline can focus on recovering her strength and health, and Randy can continue to care for her as long as need be, without the constant concern of looming financial worries. Beyond the measurable value of dollars, you have given them another gift, immeasurable, intangible, and precious: a glimpse of how much their own lives have touched yours, through the years (think George Bailey, in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”). Each prayer you lift up matters. Each card or note brings encouragement. And each gift has contributed to an astounding total. Like Randy and Jacqueline, YOU have made a difference. And isn’t that nice to know. For tomorrow, surely, there will be another person in each of our lives, for whom we can make a difference. A LEGACY OF CARING While Jacqueline was a patient at Mass General, Randy requested prayers for the other 31 patients on the 10th floor of the Lunder Building. Each one there is facing life threatening illnesses, and not all have much family or many friends to bolster their faith and courage. Randy’s initial request evolved into a card-care program, through which many of you sent cards of encouragement; the nurses distributed to those patients most in need. Though Jacqueline and Randy are now home, this opportunity to encourage others continues, with the enthusiastic support of the nurses on Lunder 10. So when you think of it, in honor of the Tyners and the many people bravely fighting their own battles with illness, feel free to send a card and offer a prayer for the recipient - its another opportunity to make a difference.
