Here is the preseason letter and dates to know. SANFORD HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMAN FOOTBALL 2013 Dear Freshman Football Parents and Players Welcome to the 2013 Sanford High School Football season! Excitement is growing for what looks to be another outstanding season of Sanford Football. Enclosed you will find some very important information pertaining to the beginning of the season, practice times, important dates, meetings, etc. Please understand that playing football at Sanford High School is a big commitment of your time and effort. We expect your 100% attendance at practices, games and any other team events. Work is not an excuse to miss practices or games, please plan accordingly with bosses, and give the same consideration when scheduling doctor’s appointments, dentist appointments, or any other appointments. If you absolutely have to miss a practice or a game, it needs to be communicated to me in advance. We will be wearing black cleats, the logo maybe a different color but I ask that the majority of the cleat be black, if this is an issue please contact me. Coach Lapham, Lizotte and I look forward to seeing all of you soon in football gear and watching you make your parents, your community, your classmates, your school and yourselves proud members of the Sanford High School Freshman Football team! Sincerely, Coach Bailey p.s.- questions? [email protected] or (207) 608-3557 IMPORTANT FRESHMAN FOOTBALL DATES: 1- Wednesday, August 7th - SPORTS PHYSICALS – 1-3pm at SHS cost $15 There has been a change to the physical policy. Your sports physical is now good for two calendar years from the date it was done. FOR EXAMPLE: If you had your last physical on Aug. 10th 2009, you expire this August 10th of 2011 and will need a new physical for this upcoming season. (This will apply to our incoming Freshman!) You must now also be very careful to make sure that your sports physical does not expire in the middle of the season, as our athletic office will now track you not by your year in school, but actual calendar date of your last physical. Everyone should take the time to verify your last physical date. The athletic office can be reached at 324-8080 or [email protected]. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PRACTICE OR PLAY UNLESS YOU HAVE AN UP TO DATE PHYSICAL ON RECORD WITH THE ATHLETIC OFFICE!!! You may get physical forms in the main office of the high school. 2- Each player needs to get a green card and have it completed in order to practice. A card can be obtained from the High School weight room on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 7 am to 10 am or on the Sanford School Department Website. 3- To keep up to date I recommend if you have facebook that you “like” Sanford Freshman Football. I will post updates there frequently. . 4- Monday, August 19th : First Practice 1PM-4:30PM -Remember you must have all forms and a physical in to practice!!! Attire will be helmets, athletic shorts, practice jersey, and cleats. 5-We will practice from 2:15 until 4:15 once school begins OTHER THINGS TO KNOW AS FOOTBALL BEGINS: 1- Be as physically prepared as possible for the beginning of the season .... if you are just now beginning to train, its too late .... but do it anyway! Running should be increased and those of you who have been in the weight room doing strength training and conditioning with us all along are well on your way and just need to continue it for the next few weeks. 2- proper diet and hydration! The better you fuel yourself for the grind of pre-season, the easier it will be on your body. Water, water and more water ..... its never too soon to hydrate (low/no sugar sports drinks are ok as well) stay away from soda, it actually helps de-hydrate you! AND ANY ENERGY DRINKS ARE FORBIDDEN!!!! Eat good stuff! Stay out of the high fat and low nutrient fast food lines! Well balanced, healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables and lean meats, healthy carbohydrates are always the best for athletes in training! 3- Begin stretching ..... get a sweat going by doing some warm up running and plyometrics and then stretch! great injury prevention ....... the more flexible you are the less likely injury will occur! 4- SLEEP! You night owls that have changed your sleeping habits because it is summer, need to begin breaking those habits now! get to bed earlier and get up earlier .... your young bodies need quality sleep! Put down the cell phones, computers, and video games and get to bed!!..... if you do not... adjusting to school will be very difficult! 5- CLEATS – Our cleats are BLACK ..... We want to look as uniform as possible, it is ok if the cleat has a design such as a Nike swoosh that is white, but the basic body of the shoe needs to be black. If you are or have purchased new cleats, I recommend that you wear them a few times and run in them in an attempt to break them in before our first practice, this will help cut down on any potential blistering ........ blisters are miserable !!!!!! 6- BE PREPARED TO WORK YOUR TAILS OFF AND HAVE A BLAST PLAYING FOOTBALL FOR SANFORD HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!
