Here is the promised posting as to the deer culling in Avon - TopicsExpress

Here is the promised posting as to the deer culling in Avon Lake. The Walker Road Park Committee meeting last night was very interesting. Representatives from Avon Lake were present to explain their position and answer questions. Avon Lake is going ahead with its plan to cull deer within its borders. They have considered other options and the best alternative is the bow hunting. It is a 2 step process to gain permission to hunt deer. 1. The property owner must submit an application to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources alleging deer damage. ODNR then investigates and if they find there is in fact deer damage, ODNR will issue the owner a deer damage control permit. 2. Once the owner has the permit, the owner must come up with a plan. The plan must include, how the hunting will take place, placement of the deer stand, angle of the shots, who will do the hunting and any other pertinent details. The owner then submits this plan to the AL Police Chief. The chief will investigate the property and the feasibility of the plan. The chief has the final word based on safety factors. If he says no, it is back to the drawing board for the property owner. As for Wallker Rd Park, it is jointly owned by Bay Village and Avon Lake and as such BOTH parties would have to agree and would have to follow the above steps, just like any Avon Lake property owner. Go to ODNR, get a permit, formulate a plan and obtain police approval. As of this time there are no plans from Bay or Avon Lake to do any deer culling at the park.
