Here is the response I received when I pointed out to the Sierra Club that they were only focusing on CO2 emissions and ignoring the impact of animal agriculture on climate change: Thank you for contacting the Sierra Club. We deeply appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback regarding animal agricultures threat to to the climate. The Sierra Club primarily focuses on confronting the climate crisis in the U.S., where, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the production and burning of fossil fuels is by far the single largest source of climate pollution, as well as a major cause of landscape destruction, water pollution, air pollution, and related sickness and deaths. Our mission is to quickly accelerate the nations transition to the era of clean energy prosperity, and encourage responsible environmental practices in all aspects of life, including farming. The Sierra Club is addressing this by pushing for stronger protections from the negative effects of factory farms and encouraging agriculture with less reliance on dangerous pesticides and fertilizers. The Club currently is revising and updating its food and agriculture policy to make those principles even clearer and stronger. I have provided a link below to our current agriculture policy: sierraclub.org/policy/agriculture-policies Thank you for supporting the Sierra Club and our work on behalf of the environment. Sincerely, Carolyn Sierra Club Member Services
