Here is the second series of exercises you can do to strengthen your abdominal/core muscles after ostomy surgery. Before beginning any exercise program, always check with your doctor first. Did you find these exercises helpful? Let us know! Standing and sitting Stand up and hold yourself on a table or the back of a chair. Stand on one leg, bend the knee of the other leg and push it back and away. Stand up and tilt your pelvis backwards by straining the buttock muscles and push it forward. Youll form a slight hollow back. Keep your knees slightly bent. Stretch the hip and push it forward and downward. Dont turn the hip outward, because then the exercise wont have much use. Sit on the front of the seat of a regular chair with the pelvis tilted backward and the torso bent a little backward. Lift your left leg, alternating with your right leg, without using your hands. Variations: lift your leg higher; stretch your knees straight and lift two legs at the same time. Sit on the front of the seat of a regular chair with the pelvis tilted backward to make a slightly hollow back. Move slowly towards the back of the chair, and back up again, without using your hands.
