Alex Lightman: Sol Invictus: The Invincible Sun vs. The Tar Sands Billionaires The future victor is as obvious as daylight The single most important battle against evil in the world today is the battle for solar power. Solar is winning. Computer simulations and financial projections show that by 2030, if current trends continue (and they could accelerate), the oil, coal, natural gas, nuclear, traditional utility, traditional car, and biofuel industries will be destroyed and made utterly worthless. This, in turn, would terminate the vast majority of all bribes, and the vast majority of funding for the Republican party, and the entire power base of the Koch brothers, ALEC, Karl Rove, and other shameless bribers of politicians to turn away from the public interest. And this termination of bribes would lead massive cuts in the Defense budget that are, in fact, very obvious unreimbursed subsidies for global oil giants. But if demand for oil in the US collapses (and it will), then there will be no need for the US to have a thousand foreign military bases, nor the need for the US taxpayer and foreign buyers of US Treasuries (combined, perhaps 50 million people out of 7.5 billion) to bear the entire burden for the oil industry subsidy. With the collapse of the fossil fuel industry and the extinction of the gasoline burning automobile, health care costs would also collapse, since a third of US health care costs are to deal with the poisonous, toxic, and cancerous effects of fossil fuels ($886.5 billion a year) This, in turn, could easily lead to a balanced federal budget. At that point, the ability to broadcast fear, uncertainty, and doubt, to create wars and invade and occupy nations...the root of the current corrupt Republican party...will wither and die. And so the Koch brothers and Grover Norquist, a fuzzy wuzzy muppet of a man that I have met in person and found laughably like the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz, must fight against solar in every way they can. And they will still fail. The battle is already OVER in California, and California will simply have the lowest cost of electricity in the US and export to the rest of the US. The Koch brothers have to kill solar in California, and thats impossible at this point.
