Here is todays Advent Devotion. Isaiah 40:3-5 A voice cries out: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken. What an awesome scripture! Am I the only one, that when I read it, I hear a song in my head? “ Pre-pare ye the way of the Lord. Pre-pare ye the way of the Lord.”....I wonder how many songs have been written, how many sermons have been preached, how many devotions have been written and how many people can recite this scripture from memory. Verses 3-4 give us directions for making a straight, level, smooth highway in the desert. Can you imagine making that kind of a road without heavy earth moving equipment? This scripture says that after that is done, “then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed”. I wonder if thats telling us it will be a long time until its revealed. I understand preparing for upcoming events but this sounds like a life time of preparation before being ready. Advent season is not just shopping, cleaning, baking and gift giving, it is preparation for Christmas, “Christs birth”. As we ponder what this really means, Jesus birth is the beginning. Let us focus on all the Lord has revealed to us through Jesus. Dear God, help us keep out minds and hearts open to you as we prepare for celebrating Jesus birth and sharing your love with others. Amen.
