Here it is.... the final cut of the AshSPEC High-Flow T25 Cast - TopicsExpress

Here it is.... the final cut of the AshSPEC High-Flow T25 Cast Iron Exhaust Manifold. To this point: ~55 hours total modeling/flow simulation time. There is one caveat to this design that Ive had a little struggle with; the requirement for one of the plenum support bosses and an arbitrary extension block on the cylinder head that will have to be removed for proper fitment. After a bit of deliberation with Greg Dupree of Specialty-Z on the topic of having to remove these artifacts on the cylinder head, he provided the reassurance I needed to continue moving forward with this design. There are two very challenging design points with this part: fitment and flow. For the most part, the larger the flow area, the better the flow, but a consequence is that the manifold will take up more space. The discharge port on the turbo compressor housing is the largest thorn in the side of development here.. It is an absolute priority that the discharge port and its silicone coupler have ample clearance to the manifold. Problem is, the more the front and center runner can be moved towards the compressor discharge port, the better the flow becomes, but there is a limited amount of space that is required in order for the compressor discharge coupler to fit with sufficient clearance to the manifold.. So then the engineering approach turns into a lesser of evils.... and that means a LOT of development time. Fortunately for us, the lesser of evils in this case have converged on a design that only requires one of the plenum bracket bosses to be trimmed back as well as that odd rectangular extension coming off the flange of the valve cover. Obtaining the best possible flow within the space constraints has been achieved and only a small degree of trimming of non-critical parts is required. =) So just a heads up here: In a lot of cases, in the effort to streamline a design, it may require some degree of compromise to achieve. I just wanted to put the fact out there that these manifolds will require a small degree of trimming of these two small components on the cylinder head to provide proper fitment of this new manifold. Additionally, we will be providing a single-bolt strap with this kit to replace the OEM plenum bracket. Thats my $.02.. Your thoughts? =)
