Here lies the Open Carry dilemma. Yes, Louisiana is an Open Carry state and yes, it is your right to Open Carry if you can legally possess a firearm. I do not personally choose to Open Carry for reasons I discuss in detail during our courses, but I am NOT against responsible Open Carry. If your reasoning for carrying a firearm is personal defense, that firearm would likely be a pistol. If you are open carrying an AR-15 or other long gun on your back, you are not carrying for personal defense, but rather to prove a point. I guess that point is that Open Carry is legal....which it already is, so what exactly are you demonstrating? Because of the Open Carry of Long Guns, this is the second restaurant chain in the past two weeks which has decided to request that customers no longer bring guns (concealed, open, pistol, or long gun) into their restaurants. If you are going to carry, please carry responsibly and by responsibly I do not only mean safely. Yes, carrying a long gun strapped across your back can be considered safe and responsible, but you need to consider the company you will be carrying this rifle around. The answer to someone who is uncomfortable with your open carry of an AR-15 should not be Too bad, get over it, it is my right.
