Here some food for thought. Although I respect vegetarians and their beliefs, I do not fully agree with them in some points of view. For example...Vegetarianism in Jainism is based on the principle of nonviolence (ahimsa, literally non-injuring). Vegetarianism is considered mandatory for everyone. Jains are either lacto-vegetarians or vegans.[citation needed] No use or consumption of products obtained from dead animals is allowed. Moreover Jains try to avoid unnecessary injury to plants and suksma jiva (Sanskrit for subtle life forms; minuscule organisms). The goal is to cause as little violence to living things as possible, hence they avoid eating roots, tubers such as Potatoes, garlic and anything that involves uprooting (and thus eventually killing) a plant to obtain food. Every act by which a person directly or indirectly supports killing or injury is seen as violence (himsa), which creates harmful karma. They twist the word violence into believing an act of killing an animal for food is violent. Here is the definition of violence. Violence is the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation.[2] This definition associates intentionality with the committing of the act itself, irrespective of the outcome it produces. Generally, although, anything that is turbulent or excited in an injurious, damaging or destructive way, or presenting risk accordingly, may be described as violent or occurring violently, even if not signifying violence (by a person and against a person). So that being said...can we also believe that these jainists are being violent in psychological harm to other human beings by separating our beliefs? And it could also be true to other religions that separate man and his beliefs? So then are we to say RELIGION is violent? Because if they believe violence to be a universal term for everything then they just violently and psychologically hurt my brain.
