Heres a couple more photos from 1929 history when that remarkable engineering feat took place moving an entire block on the south side of Main St. 1,600 rollers and 340 tons of steel rails were used and the 14 buildings weighed about 2,500,000 pounds. It was 10:15 am Sunday when the foremens whistle notified 17 men at the push jacks in front of the building to pull down on their bars and the entire block began to move. The men, working in pits in front of the building, pulled with the precision of a boating crew, and the entire block moved back without vibration over the steel rollers that were supported by steel rails on ties similar to a railroad track.
