Heres a great article on holistic treatment of itchy dogs. Itchy skin is caused by flea allergies, food allergies, and allergies to pollens molds and grasses. Most commercial diets contain allergens and too little healthy oils to nourish the skin and coat. Dry skin is much more apt to react to allergens and fleas. I alway recommend increasing healthy meats, fish, eggs, sardines,fish oil, olive oil, canola oil as well as a limited ingredient diet like fish potato. You also need to discontinue any processed treats. If the itching continues after 2 months of the healthy oils and limited diets, then other allergies may be the issue. Any dog that licks their feet and has inflammed ears may have allergies to pollens and molds. Weekly bathing and daily wiping of pads may help itchy feet. (Conditioning shampoo). Local honey and other holistic treatment in the following article may help. Benadryl may also help at 1 mg per pound twice daily
