Heres a great reason not to ever eat at Piccola Italia in Cameron Village, Raleigh. I used to drop by here once in a while. Decent food, not great. Went last night and was surprised to find first the entrees bumped up around $3-$4 per item. I mean, the low end, spaghetti and meatballs was over $13, and the pasta isnt homemade. Quality wise, this should be an all entrees under $10 place, and now most were close to $20. But heres the real problem. I ordered a small Caesar salad and a side order of meatballs and sauce. The salad was really small, served on an appetizer plate,and seemed comprised of that pre-chopped romaine you buy in bags at the grocery store. With 1 tomato slice, an end slice, nothing but green core. I asked for an edible slice and the waiter, after about ten minutes - in a nearly empty restaurant - brought me 1 slice. For $4.25 the waiter brought 2 small meatballs. A friend got a Greek salad, he asked her if she wanted lettuce with that, since it only came with cucumbers and tomatoes and 4 tiny cubes of feta cheese(looked pre-cut). Yes, lettuce would be good, she said, and also the olives they forgot - so he brought a bowl of 5. He didnt tell her it cosyt an extra $2 for a handful of lettuce. When the bill came, they charged me $6.25, not $4.25 for the 2 meatballs. I pointed out the mistake and the waiter, argued, said, You ordered the side meatballs. One meatball is $4.25, but if you order a Side its $6.25. I pointed to the menu, where under the listing - Side Orders - it said meatballs and sauce $4.25 When there is an s on the end, meatballs, that means plural, more than one, I said. And it is listed under side orders. Well, thats how the cash register rings it up and theres nothing I can do about it. I had already put down my cash, covering the erroneous bill, and I removed $2 and told him, You can argue it out with management. The manager stood at the back, six feet away, listening, and did, said nothing. And that, my friends, is just one more little example of whats wrong with this country.
