Heres a lesson in Snow 101 (and why snow lovers in the Tri-Cities will likely be robbed again tomorrow) To get snow you need two basic things - moisture and cold air. Over the next 1-2 days well have both across the area, but not at the same time.... Moisture will come first in the form of rain showers later today, and these will continue tonight. For most, temperatures will remain above freezing which will keep most of the precipitation as rain. However, higher elevations may drop below 32 so snow is possible there. For much of the day tomorrow, temperatures in the Tri-Cities will continue to remain above 32 degrees. While snow may mix in at times, it will certainly not be cold enough to get a good accumulating snow. However, it should be cold enough for long enough to get accumulating snow for elevations about 2500-3000 feet and above. A few inches of snow are possible in the mountains of east TN and western NC, and an inch or two may fall in some spots of southwest VA. We have the chance for a few more snow showers (again especially for higher elevations) on Tuesday, which may add another inch to any snow totals.
