Heres a little Sunday evening story for you... On the sunny, early autumn Sunday after Americana Music Association Festival, I headed down Highway 65 from #Nashville, Tennessee to #MuscleShoals, Alabama. Having grown up listening to and being inspired by great women soul singers such as Aretha Franklin and Etta James, and having recently watched the fantastic documentary Muscle Shoals, it was a bit of a dream come true to have received the personal invitation to visit FAME Recording Studios & Publishing Co. We spent an hour or so visiting every room and listening to Rodney Hall, Rick Halls son and keeper of the FAME flame, tell stories about the various legends that have graced the place. I think maybe my favourite moment though was when Rodney handed me his fathers guitar... This guitar has been used on some of the most famous songs ever recorded, including Jimmy Johnson playing it on Aretha Franklins Do Right Woman, Do Right Man. We were told that it had also been played over the years by Otis Redding, Clarence Carter, Wilson Pickett, Mac Davis and more... So it was with a good deal of care as well as excitement that I took hold of it - heres a clip of me playing a bit of my song Home... Enjoy, Emily x
