Heres a little story about my April Fools Day. Id love to hear your thoughts on it, because maybe Im right, or maybe Im overreacting. Im not upset at all, Im just incredulous about it. Lets see what you think... Im friends with a couple that Ive known for years, always loved and respected them. Yesterday, she posted that she was pregnant yay! on her Facebook wall. Shes about the 47th person to have posted that to her wall yesterday, so of course I didnt believe her. I cheekily told her I would congratulate her tomorrow when it wasnt April Fools Day. She seemed offended that I didnt believe her and we went back and forth a bit. Then she posted an obviously fake ultrasound photo and said it was for those who think this is a joke, which was obviously directed at me, since everyone else was busy congratulating her. I told her I dont joke about things like this because I dont think its particularly funny. I cant have babies of my own and I really want them (which is true, by the way), so to me its not a joke, and if she is truly pregnant then I offer her a heartfelt congratulations. Now, keep in mind, I wasnt actually mad or offended. Meanwhile all her friends and family seemed ecstatic for her. Shortly thereafter, the pregnancy posts disappeared, and by this morning, I was unfriended by both her and her husband. So heres the thing...I think April Fools is really stupid, but I go along with it for the most part. One person got me yesterday with a good one. I dont think the pregnancy ones are funny, but they dont really bother me, I was more playing her the way she was playing me, and obviously she couldnt take it. But still, if youre going to play games with peoples emotions, such as your mother who now thinks shes going to be a grandma only to find out you were JUST KIDDING, do you really have a right to get mad when people either dont believe you, or are irritated that they were lied to about something as emotional as a baby? Im all for fun and games, but if you let it ruin a friendship then youre not much of a friend, now are you. In fact, I think it means youre kind of a shitty person. Moral of the story, kids... have all the fun you want, but have some respect for peoples emotions. And if youre going to dish it, make sure you can take it. AND if youre not going to even bother trying to make your prank a good one, then dont get offended when someone calls you out on it right away. Were not all lemmings. Lets hear your thoughts...
