Heres a memory for Throwback Thursday…. It was last January 28th that Republican Congressman Michael Grimm threatened to throw the reporter off the f@%king balcony for daring to ask him about investigations into his possible campaign violations. It was just THIS Jan 5th that Michael Grimms resignation from Congress took effect after pressure against him proved too much. The pressure came after he was indicted on 20 counts of tax evasion, to one of which he pleaded guilty. Part of those indictments included Grimm regularly hiring immigrants who lacked proper credentials to be allowed to work, then paying them under the table in order to both pay them less than minimum wage, and to avoid paying proper payroll taxes. Little is actually spoken about his indictments beyond him pleading guilty to one count of tax evasion. Knowing more of the big picture here though, really helps explain why the pressure against him to resign (despite JUST winning re-election even WITH the indictments) eventually turned out to be too much burden for a Congressman who would have such say over shaping (or blocking) immigration reform. Oh yeah, and that threat on the life of the reporter almost a year ago? Its all good of course. Grimm apologized the next day. He is a class guy, ya know… even if he is no longer in Congress.
