Heres a modest suggestion: Would ALL political parties in the 2017 election campaign decide not to make crime a partisan issue? It is a political issue for debate and discussion, but it is not a partisan one. I would love to see the leader of Party X say that their platform on crime would be to call all stakeholders together to agree the framework of a sustained plan to address crime based upon strategies that are not emotive or based on conjecture - but rather that have proven empircally to decrease the incidence of crime in other jurisdictions. That is my earnest hope.
