Heres a video from last night to show you how NOT to protest. I dont mean to single out the nice people in the video, but over the past five years, Ive seen at least fifty protests, and Ive never had a freaking clue what any of them have been about. I can only tell if the protesters lean right or left politically based on the presence/absence of a picture of Obama sporting a Hitler mustache. Dont get me wrong, Im all about civil disobedience as a means of protest. But if you go to all the trouble of getting a group of people to walk the streets, wearing costumes and carrying signs, please designate at least ONE person to carry an easy to read sign displaying the following (in fifty words or less): 1. Whom/what you are protesting; 2. Who you think should fix the problem; and 3. What they should do to fix it. Otherwise, what is the point of drawing attention to yourself if the only people who know why youre out there are already protesting with you? Just one person, carrying a clear, legible sign, that can be read in under 30 seconds from 50 feet away. Too much to ask? #protestmediaconsultant
