Heres an IndyCar fun fact to help get everyone excited about this years Indy 500. Last years race, in addition to being Tony Kanaans first Indy 500 win, was also the fastest Indy 500 in the history of the race. Over the course of the 500 mile race, the average speed of the winner, Kanaan, was 187.433 mph which includes all pit stops and yellow flag periods. To put that into perspective, even with all of Tonys pit stops and caution periods, Tony traveled 275 feet/second which is just 25 feet shy of a football field a second. Thats FAST! Does anyone think the current speed record can be broken this year??
