Heres another student project. Steve Turchman took my class last - TopicsExpress

Heres another student project. Steve Turchman took my class last year. His primary goal was to learn how to fix the body of his XK Jaguar 120 roadster. He had ZERO experience in shaping sheet metal before my class. At the class he worked mostly taking out dents on his two rear fenders using my dent removal methods and one of my nine inch shrinking discs. He also learned how to tig weld both steel and aluminum at my class. He has since bought a Miller diversion. He had ZERO tig welding experience. Later, he enrolled in my extended learning program where I allow the student to take his car to my shop and work on it under my direction. He does all the work, I guide him. The cost is $25.00 per hour for this program. Steve gets to use all the facilities of my fully equipped 8700 sq ft shop for that fee plus have me available to answer any questions. He lives 1.5 hrs away and tries to get to the shop a couple of times a month. This one piece bootlid skin for his 120 roadster was his very first shaping job. First he rebuild the wood inner frame structure after deskinning it. Rebuilding also included skinning the wood structure with aluminum. On the bootlid skin,he did all of the steps including shrinking the side edges of the bootlid. There is about six inches of rise or shape in the bootlid where it makes the lower compound curve. The material is .050 3003-h14 aluminum, no annealing was used. Steve used my flexible shape pattern method to shape the panel locate the edge bends and locate the holes for the license plate holder. He tipped the 90 degree edge and hemmed them down. Later he filed and sanded the edges. Overall it is a world class job in all aspects. Shaping was done using my deep shrink no mar method and all planishing was done on my English wheel. Wray
