Heres my New York Comic Con Survival Guide. Its not comprehensive, but hopefully itll help folks find a good meal! Okay, while youre staying in NYC, there are certain things youll want to know about the neighborhood where the Javits Convention Center is located. Javits is in the southern part of Hells Kitchen, the NYC area most famous for being home to the Westies, a notorious Irish crime organization; and to blind criminal defense attorney Matthew Murdock. But, Im sure you all knew that. Hells Kitchen has undergone a great renaissance over the last 20 years, and is now a veritable shangri-la of amazing food and cool spots to chill. I dont know if it will be there again, but last year there was a street festival with stalls of merchants on 40th between 11th & 10th. If you walk north and east of the convention center, youll find just about every kind of food you want, and some really outstanding locations that have found a place in my humble heart. When in doubt hit Restaurant Row, 46th Street between 9th & 8th avenues. But dont fall into the event horizon that is Times Square!! Once you hit 8th Ave youre in the land of Sbarros & Olive Gardens. Something else I cannot recommend highly enough is to download the NYC Subway map & the Best Parking app for your phone, if youre driving. Itll help you find free parking on the street, just remember to click on the setting. Also, dont hesitate to hop on a bus to get around. Theyre cheap and you get a view of the City. And you should definitely give a look to this article on why you should always get $19.05 on your MetroCard. Itll save you a few bucks while youre here. iquantny.tumblr/post/96700509489/how-memorizing-19-05-can-help-you-outsmart-the-mta On to the most important thing, FOOD!! Ill be heading to Restaurant Depot on Long Island before the con to stock up on drinks and snacks. Hope everyone has a safe and fun #NYCC! Peace! PK
