Heres my write up from the Chase the Dog event we just had on the weekend. Honestly, it was the most enjoyable ride Ive ever had. No, it wasnt the high speed or the distance or the course. I put it down to the relaxed nature of the event and the company I kept. We rode together as mates. At times I was at the front, at the back or somewhere in between. We rode and talked. We ate pies and coffee and cakes and talked. Talked, instead of pushing ourselves to go faster or higher or along singletrack. It didnt feel like 85km, because it wasnt a task. My legs didnt even get close to sore, especially the days since. The aim of the ride was to raise awareness of depression. It made me think about how such a great day could reduce the effects of it. The key was spending quality time with your mates. I hope if you suffer from this disease or think you might, be brave and talk about it. The event is on again next year. Its not about the course, but the journey, just like life. Mates dont let mates suffer alone. Help people in need, listen and spend quality time with those around you. You never know who may be raising the courage to be brave and speak to you about how they feel. Cheers Ferg #chasethedog
