Heres some rather nice feedback from a recent UnsungHeroGuitars customer... I have a Gibson 1983 Re-issue Les Paul 59 that I was playing less and less as the value of it went up, which is a shame because it makes awesome sounds. What to do about it? Would an Epi 59 make a reasonable player substitute? So, having seen all the recommendations on the MyLesPaul Forum, I bought a guitar from Clive at UnsungHeroGuitars. Take a look at the result of Clives work: It looks good, and even better in real life - Clives work has removed the plastidipped look, and the finish is not obviously poly on first glance. Further work involved polishing all the hardware (70 something individual parts!) polishing the frets, refinishing and oiling the board, and replacing all the original wiring to something more period looking. It plays beautifully :) Making even a trainwreck of a player such as myself sound half decent! Clive is a jolly decent fellow to deal with, from the beginning of the process to the end, and is a true enthusiast of the Epiphone Les Paul. If youre in the market for an Epi Les Paul, certainly if youre in the UK, look up Clive at the link at the top of the page. Whats that you say? How does 1983 Gib compare to 2014 refinished 2010 Epi? Hmm tricky one. I would say that Clives efforts have enabled the Epi to surpass the Gib in absolute playability, which surprised me, Ill admit, considering one costs seven times less than the other (UK replacement prices). The 83 however has had no professional setup work done on it since the day it left Gibson. Sound? the 83 slightly cleaner, the 2010 slightly more Texas? So - the $64000 question - does the Epi, via Clive make a good stand in for the Gib? Absolutely! (y) So there you are :D
