Heres something to try out to help soften your heart and fill it with the love for the sake of Allah swt, with a super cool side effect. So, the last club formed on our MYC New Dawn Youth Umrah Retreat was the Duaa for Strangers Club. In this club, you are to spend one designated time slot (about 30-45 minutes long) just scanning the crowds and making duaa only for other people, whom you do not know. For instance, if you see an old person, struggling and weak you ask Allah swt to make things easy for them and help them find peace and comfort in Him and the anticipation of His jannah. If you see a couple, you ask Allah swt to bless their marriage, increase the love and mercy in their hearts and to bring them closer to Him together. If you see a child, you ask Allah swt to protect them and help them grow up to be among the righteous. If you see someone sad or in pain distress, you ask Allah swt to give them relief and to answer their duaa. If someone is being aggressive, rude, or harsh, you ask Allah swt to forgive them and guide them. You get the point. The focus is others, and this helps us to build emphathy, care, consideration and love for others. Among the most wonderful qualities of our beloved rasool, salAllahu alayhi wasalam. Seek these out in others, hold on tight to them, as they are truly beautiful. The added benefit of all these duaas, of course, is that whatever duaas you make for others, the angels make duaa to Allah on your behalf for the same. Super cool, right?
