Heres the final video. Me shooting an Armalite AR-50. This is the same .50 Caliber Rifle Mythbusters uses in their test, and yes, the .50 Caliber round it fires is the infamous .50 Caliber Browning Machine Gun round. In this video we were shooting at a half inch thick x 3 feet wide iron plate at 300 yards. For all the horror stories about this guns penetration we heard, it sure didnt live up. We were shooting surplus Browning M2 (Ma-Duce) ammo and it was putting 2 or 3 mm deep crater looking dents in the plate, not even coming close to penetrating it and this was pot iron, not steel. One rumor this gun outshines is the recoil. If you hear anyone say the recoil is manageable, believe them. It feels like a car axle with a crutch pad on the end of it scooting back at you a few inches. Itll move you a little but the recoil is actually soothing. On the other hand, the gun is so loud that; if youre standing nearby when one goes off, every bone in your body will vibrate just like your hands would if you held a steel stair rail and someone hit it with a sledge hammer 2 feet away. Basically, a 3 year old child can handle the recoil but even the toughest of us wont want to be around the gun when it goes off. Youll suffer more being around it when it goes off then you will shooting it.
