Heres the thing: I wanted it to be true. I hoped that this boy WAS armed, DID point a gun at a cop. I avoided watching these videos at first, dreading. Ive seen the photos circulating, the time stamps showing NO gun lying on the ground directly after the shooting but 2 hours later (like magic!) a gun is suddenly distinctly visible on the ground... I hoped those images were the work of extremist thinking, fabricated to incite rage. The alternative would be... genuine cause for rage and it begins to wear you down. Every day, another blow to the spirit, another story of commonplace injustices that should not be common in an advanced society. So, at last, I watched the damned videos. This article isnt unique but it features all three videos released by the PD-- of 30+ cameras, only these three supposedly captured proof that Antonio Martin pulled a gun on an officer. And now my fears are confirmed. Not one of these images comes close to visible, tangible, evidence. Not a single angle that shows me the gun. These videos, according to the local investigators, confirm the officers claim? Out of over 30 cameras on the scene THESE are the only images? I WISH the videos backed the claim, truly. Its too disgusting to think of the alternative possibilities. What is much clearer to me than anything captured on film outside that gas station are some painful truths: We (the public) are being lied to, placated, and the protests have produced a change never intended. Forget the demand to delve into how/why these incidences continue to occur, opening community/law enforcement dialogue toward collaborative solutions. Law enforcement officials now seem to fear public backlash far more than ever, in the history of this country, and-- in some cases, at least-- May be MORE deceptive, to close ranks, and maybe engage in evidence tampering in situations like this one. m.christianpost/news/police-release-3-videos-allegedly-showing-18-y-o-antonio-martin-raising-gun-at-police-before-being-shot-as-protests-continue--131711/
