Heres the update youve been waiting for, theres a lot of info so please take the time to read it all........ The police were there and the issue with speed came up, the police have done a speed check but we have asked for more on the Malden Road and they promised more before the next committee meeting in June. An interesting point is that anyone in neighbourhood watch can volunteer to do speed check and get training on using the speed guns. The police also did a speed check recently with students from Overton School. I volunteered Cheam High to get involved. If anyone has contacts with Cheam High can you let me know if you can help to maybe get this arranged. As an interim measure while were waiting for funding and studies to take place, it has been agreed that the zebra crossing will be repainted and additional flashing signs will go up. We can expect to see these signs in the next 4-6 weeks. We did ask for a school and a crossing sign to be put up also as these are not present and can help. These should be up within a week. We also asked about the possibility of having a lollipop person at the crossing. The council cant provide this however anyone interested in helping out voluntarily during school times, please let me know and I will forward your details on. You will get the essential health and safety training, this will be a great help in the meantime and especially now the weather is improving as more pupils from the school will start using the park and therefore the crossing. We have asked that the whole road is looked as there are issues with the island crossing going into the park as well as the zebra crossing. We have also asked that during their studies the position of the bus stops and crossings are looked at to ensure that they are in the best place to help drivers and pedestrian using this road. Traffic surveys have started and we hope the information will be ready in a couple of weeks, there have been strips along the whole of Malden Road which have been measuring the traffic flow, speed and type of vehicles using this road. This information will then be used to see what needs to be implemented to make the road safer. The councillors are backing this and are keen to get funding sorted asap, there is a project in another are where residents there dont want the any changes to take place at a particular junction and the councillors have requested that the funding for this is transferred to the Malden Road funding. At this stage we cannot give timescales but this is seen as a priority and if necessary a further committee meeting will be held before the next one is due to ensure there are no delays. Again thank you to all who came, one of the reasons we have the councillors backing is because so many people were there to support this. They even told a resident from another road to do what we did if they want changes implemented on their road. I cant stress enough how much we need this continued support, especially at the committee meetings. If I have missed anything please feel free to add to this. In look forward to seeing people on the 3rd.
