Heres what I have to say about happy new year.... Being an ardent fan of the superstar, you might call my review a biased one.... I leave that up to you to decide..... First things first, the film as a whole matches up to its pre release hype and frankly, given the low expectations that accompany any big ticket movie these days, its a pleasant surprise as it delivers what it promises and in generous proportions.... And thats entertainment, drama and some festive fervor mixed with a pinch of patriotic feelings... The film follows the story of a bunch of odd balls on a mission and has its own back story which complements the story flow quite satisfactorily.... Also being a heist film the robbery itself is at least credible compared to dhoom 3 standards and finds its place in screen play quite conveniently.... And as Charlie puts it in his narrative, Farah keeps it simple.... Screenplay is quite linear and the only complaint being the length of the film which could have been reduced by a good 15 minutes.... Especially a roof top fight sequence and nonsense ki night number could be easily done away with.... Music wise the film offers a hummable number in the form of a soothing-the-senses manwa laage.... The other tracks, though well integrated into the screenplay, are just those complimentary add ons at the fast food joint that doesnt effect your order choice.... Now coming to star performances.... This is not srk the actor at his best, this is no swades and was rightly never sold as one, but this is superstar worship at its best.... Yes folks, this is an unabashed portrayal of style and swagger of King khan, replete with generous references to his filmography (the best being a kabir khan done by Deepika..... Look out for that one) and inculcating trademark srk mannerisms here and there.... Deepika walks past her role quite routinely and seems a bit relaxed after heavy duty roles in Chennai express, ram Leela and finding fanny in the past year.... But dont loose your heart guys.... What she lacks in her performance (blame that on less than full fledged role which she is used to ) she more than makes up for it with her earnestness.... And boy does she look like a million bucks in every frame..... Abhishek once again demonstrates his calibre at comedy with brilliant comic timings and he is dutifully supported by a convincing boman Irani.... Sonu sood is more an eye candy here and he is explored way too less.... But given the length of the film, this is admissible.... Even vivaan is used as a prop to complete the frame and he doesnt shine in a limited screen space that he is spared, which might cost him in future ventures..... So my final word on the film is that its an unapologetic blockbuster, perfect for the festive season and offers dollops of entertainment in true blue bollywood ishtyle.... Enjoy it with your family and friends.... I give it a 3 out of 5
