Heres wishing the happiest of birthdays to Asterix, the indomitable Gaul created by writer René Goscinny and artist Albert Uderzo. The first chapter of the first Asterix adventure appeared in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Pilote on October 29, 1959. Since then, 35 volumes have been released with a new one scheduled. Asterix was my first exposure to European comics and his adventures amused and dazzled me from the start. For some strange reason, I can relate best to the height-challenged Asterix. But I love all the Gauls and I thank them for entertaining me all these years.
