Here’s an insightful view into American society and its drivers. As the author of the Postman, the dystopian descriptions that we are surrounded with may have special resonance to me. As one member of the Arthur Clarke Center puts is: “Fear is a terrible human societal driver and is such a waste. I worry that Humanism as a movement is inadequate to deal with these primordial thoughts and that the anti-religious stance from some atheists will actually reinforce the concepts.” But it is really much simpler than this author puts it. We are taught that a politicians religious beliefs are immaterial. Generally so! But when those beliefs include daily prayer for the end of the world to come, according to a Book Of Revelations scenario of gruesome torture and death for the vast majority of Americans, followed by the permanent end of all democracy and the United States of America... at that point the politicians beliefs become VERY relevant, because we are being asked to hand over to her (or him) keys to the very means by which she can do most of those things, herself. - David Brin
