Here’s an update on the Veterans Administration (VA): thehill/regulation/222808-va-to-speed-healthcare-access-in-scandals-wake You may recall a couple of months ago we enacted significant reform of the VA that principally addressed three areas: 1) Reduced the backlog of veterans waiting on care by authorizing more resources to pay local doctors to treat veterans in their own communities 2) Strengthened the VA by authorizing more doctors and nurses for VA treatment centers 3) Strengthen accountability and transparency by providing more hire/fire authority to the Secretary of the VA and requiring more audits of treatment facilities, including unannounced audits This recent legislation should improve the timeliness and quality of care for our veterans. Given the geographic make-up of our district, with many veterans living more than 40 miles from a major treatment facility, this legislation should markedly help Upstate NY and our veterans.
