Here’s my transmission story. My car was at SouthernHotRod - TopicsExpress

Here’s my transmission story. My car was at SouthernHotRod for a build, which took for ever, which is another story in and of itself. Anyway, once the build got underway, Eddie asked me if I would be agreeable to taking the Paramount Transmission out and putting in a SHR War Viking and offered to make me a “deal I could not refuse.” I really didn’t want to take the Paramount out because it had been working fine. But, Eddie said that he would sell me a War Viking for $X and that I could keep my used, but perfectly good, Paramount. That way, Eddie got to have the SHR in the car to go along with the build, I got a “deal” on a new transmission and I would have a spare transmission, or a transmission that I could easily sell for $X to cover my costs. We discussed all of this and there was no misunderstanding about the details in that he said that in the event I wanted to sell the Paramount it would be worth at least $X which would put me in his transmission at no cost in the event I wanted to sell it. What a deal, Right? Well, I went to SHR and picked up both my Paramount transmission and the perfectly functioning BES engine that came out of my car. I found out that my perfectly good Paramount had been gone into, without approval and knowing that I was going to either reuse it or sell it down the road. I let it go and said nothing. No one has since touched either the transmission or the engine, as they have been locked away in my garage. After a month or so, I heard that there were issues with the SHR transmission on higher horsepower builds. So, I then made the decision to pull the SHR Transmission out and put the Paramount back in, once I got my car back. But, after looking closer at the Paramount, I noticed that the splines on the input shaft were twisted. I then saw that the lugs that drive the pump had chatter marks on them. When I asked Eddie about my findings, he insisted that all of the parts in my Paramount were original and that he did not take anything out of my transmission. I was then told that his transmission guy had “mistakenly” opened my transmission up and that he stopped him and that they put all the original parts back in. He further assured me that only one transmission at a time is torn down and that there was no way that any parts were swapped. I again, let it go, but it kept eating at me. After a couple of days, I called Bill at Paramount and explained to him that I had a transmission that had twisted splines and chatter marks on the pump lugs. I ask if that is something that is normal in his transmissions. He says, “no.” I thanked him and let it go. After another few days, this continues to eat at me and I called Bill back. I asked him if I could send the transmission back to him for inspection and if upon inspection he would be able to tell if his parts were removed. He said that his parts were all marked and that he would indeed be able to tell. But, before I sent the transmission back, I ask Bill if there was anyway for me to tell, before I sent it back, if the original Paramount parts had been removed. I told Bill that I could take it to the dealership and have them tear it down and I could see first hand if parts had been removed, provided there was a way to identify the internals. Bill told me one thing specifically to look for, without tearing it down. The identifying markings he told me to look for on the input shaft were not there. This confirmed that the input shaft had been removed and swapped. I then shipped the entire transmission to Bill for further inspection. Bill tells me that my Paramount has been gutted. I had a junk core. Even the Paramount valve body was missing. Upon confronting Eddie with this, he denies everything. Say’s he can’t believe I would accuse him of this. He say’s it doesn’t even make sense for him to take my parts. He said that he would not want “shit” parts out of a Paramount transmission. He asked me if it makes sense to me and I agree that it does not make sense. It does not make sense at all. He claims he nor anyone in his shop would have taken the parts out of my transmission. All I know is that before shipping the transmission back to Bill, I was able to identify that the input shaft was in fact, not my original Paramount shaft. Upon receiving my transmission, Bill only further confirmed the extent of what else was missing. So, by process of elimination, either someone at SHR took the parts out of my Paramount, or maybe someone broke into the shop in the middle of the night and swapped the parts, or maybe it was the tooth fairy. You figure it out. Bottom line, the Paramount was raped and so was I. Thanks Tooth Fairy!
