Here’s the latest hurricane update. The storm will pass very - TopicsExpress

Here’s the latest hurricane update. The storm will pass very close if not right over Cape Hatteras late tonight. If it passes just east of the Cape, Nags Head and points north along the Outer Banks will be spared the brunt of the storm. In fact, for locals, it will be a non-event. But…if the storm passes just west of the Cape, the northern eye wall will graze the more populated areas of the Outer Banks north of the bridge. That would bring a brief period of hurricane force wind gusts to Manteo, Nags Head and possibly Kitty Hawk late tonight. For Hampton Roads, the primary threat is heavy rain tonight and tomorrow morning with some minor tidal flooding possible. Will update later this morning if things change but here is the current wind and storm surge forecast for specific areas. Sorry I can not answer individual questions . Cape Hatteras: 70-90 mph Surge 4-6’ Nags Head 40-50 mph Surge 2-4’ Kitty Hawk 35-45 mph Surge 2-4’ Corolla 30-40 mph Surge 2-3’ Elizabeth City 20-30 mph Surge 2’ Hampton Roads 20-30 mph Minor Tidal Flood (1.5-2’) Once again, these numbers are based on the core of the storm to move over Hatteras. Any deviation west of that track would increase winds and surge for the rest of the Outer Banks and even increase the winds and surge a bit for Hampton Roads.
